Selous Game Reserve, now Nyerere National Park, is the largest national park in Africa
The Selous Game Reserve is a protected area in southern Tanzania. It covers a total area of 50,000 km2 (19,000 sq mi) and has additional buffer zones. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to its wildlife diversity and undisturbed nature.
Selous Game Reserves plays home to a wide variety of wildlife and an array of bird species, while exciting activities allow for a different pace of safari as you explore waterways by boat, and seasonal wetlands on foot. It’s a lesser-known destination and, therefore, is less crowded than the popular northern parks in Tanzania, which gives it a wilder and more private atmosphere. The park is home to many species, including a good population of wild dogs and the Big 5, which reside in the Miombo woodlands and marshy floodplains.
